ISABEL SEGUNDA BEACH HOUSE

The hallway connecting to the bedrooms and baths also provides a utility conduit above the 8'-6" high false ceiling. Just as the chases (next to the refrigerator and to the side of the washer/dryer) provide vertical space for plumbing and electrical runs, the false ceilings in the halls, baths, and closets hide the horizontal runs. The bamboo and reeds are attached to a plywood ceiling that can be removed to address repairs or modifications as needed. Pressure treated lumber is used to protect against insects and moisture. Almost all of the lumber used in the house was repurposed from the concrete forms. All of the bedroom and bathroom interior doors are aluminum with louvered glass and insect screens. This allows the main part of the house to remain open much of the time without mosquitoes, etc, migrating into the bedrooms.
